CHILDRENSunday School classes are available for children age 3 (Preschool) through 10/11 (Fifth Grade) every Sunday from 9:20 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. A nursery with a qualified attendant is provided for younger children Sunday mornings starting at 8:00 a.m. and extending to 11:45 a.m. Don Raymond and/or Jo Raymond are in the Sunday School office to assist any parent in finding their children’s classroom. A message is provided for the children as part of every Sunday morning service when they accompany their parents.
YOUTH
Two Sunday School classes are available on Sunday mornings from 9:20 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. for youth in the Junior High grades (6th – 8th) and Senior High grades (9th – 12th). Don or Jo Raymond (Sunday School Office) are ready to assist any parent in finding their youth’s classroom.
Junior confirmation is a two-year course of instruction that follows the public school calendar and prepares sixth and seventh graders for active discipleship (communing membership) in the Lutheran church. DCE Jarryn Wiley teaches the first level class while Pastor Darrell Kobs teaches the second level class. Class sessions are scheduled on Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. (except during the season of Lent and Advent). Pastor Darrell can be reached for more information through the church office.
Youth in grades six through twelve are welcome in St. John’s youth group called “Servants of the Savior.” Fellowship opportunities and servant events are scheduled for youth once or twice a month. Director of Christian Education (with Youth Emphasis) Jarryn D. Wiley leads the youth program.
College age youth are currently being organized into a group of young adults as “Lutheran Student Fellowship” on the campus of Arkansas Tech University by DCE Jarryn Wiley.
ADULT
Three Bible study classes are available to adults of all ages on Sunday mornings from 9:20 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Pastor’s Class is taught by Pastor Darrell Kobs in the fellowship hall. Vicki’s Bible class is taught by Vicki Barnett during the same hour in the classroom across from the DCE office. Various books of the Bible are discussed. In the church library room a Contemporary Adult class meets every Sunday morning at the same hour. Members take turns leading the class discussions.
Tuesday mornings Pastor Darrell teaches a Bible class for adults at 10:00 a.m. in the church library. Topics are chosen by the class.
LifeLight is a nine-week course covering selected books/topics of the Bible. The class includes weekly assignments, class discussion, and a brief lecture summarizing the week’s lesson. Class discussions are led by Marie Rice and LaDonna Yeager. Lectures are given by Pastor Darrell. Currently the course is offered on Wednesday evenings at 5:30 p.m. and on Thursday mornings at 9:00 a.m. For info on the classes call either Marie Rice (968-6795) or LaDonna Yeager (967-4733).
Pastor’s New Ambassador Class is offered quarterly to prepare interested adults for a relationship with Jesus Christ in the Lutheran Church. The “God For Us” course covers the basic teachings of the Bible and runs for five consecutive, hour and a half sessions. Anyone wishing more information on the Lutheran Church is welcome, for there is no obligation to join St. John’s at the close of the course. Call the church office (968-1309) for a schedule of upcoming classes.
Fellowship opportunities are available for adults and children on a regular, monthly basis. However, there are groups of adults that meet also on a monthly basis. The women of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League meet the first Sunday of each month at 2:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Through gifts and services they assist the congregation’s local mission efforts and other mission efforts worldwide. Quilters Workshop involves a number of women that meet on a weekly basis to make quilts for shipment overseas through Lutheran World Relief. All women are welcome.
Fifty-Niners are a group just for seniors. Those fifty-nine and older meet usually the fourth Thursday of each month for food and fellowship at 11:30 a.m. at a local restaurant. A group of women also meet on the third Tuesday of each month at a local restaurant for food and fellowship. It’s called the Lutheran Ladies Luncheon.
“Helping Hands” is an organized group of women in the congregation that helps members at times of crisis in their lives, at the birth of children, at times of illness, etc. Food is prepared or errands are run for those in need.
